Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
Can I use a cast iron kettle?
A: In most California counties, the old HEAVY cast iron pots for cooking kettle corn have been banned, and the rest of the state (and the rest of the country) is expected to quickly follow suit. So why buy one? They weigh at least 250 pounds and don't pop any more or any faster than stainless.

Q:
What is the difference between your kettle and all the others?
A: Experience: We've been popping kettle corn and selling kettles for over three years. All of the kettles we started with and all of those we have sold are still in operation.
References: Ask for references from buyers and promoters. We pop kettle corn and we designed our units to be the best, most efficient equipment for US and OUR needs. We USE our kettles. We began manufacturing stainless steel kettles when our local health department banned cast iron years ago. Since then, other kettle makers have begun selling stainless steel and carbon steel kettles. We WERE, and ARE, the FIRST manufacturer of stainless steel kettles sold nationwide and on the Internet. We have the experience in the use of stainless steel kettles which we believe gives us an edge over other manufactureres who have only recently added stainless steel to their product lines, or who are selling kettles but have no experience using them.

Q:
How portable is your kettle?
A: At about 85 pounds, mounted on casters, we have what we believe is the most portable kettle around. You can carry a kettle, EZ-up, and all your supplies on the bed of a pick-up truck. This is perfect if you are planning on popping on a part-time basis, or an easy way to work your way up to a full-time trailered operation without making a major investment before you start.

Q:
Why don't you supply the dumping pan, paddle, etc.?
A: Two reasons. First, different areas have different requirements. We can use only a detached dumping pan made of stainless or aluminum. The pan must be passed into a screened EZ-up for bagging. We can use only a stainless steel paddle for stirring. For those of you who are lucky enough to use the more "rustic" equipment such as wooden paddles, copper or wood dumping pans, etc., why would you want to pay for what WE are required to have? Second, as in all businesses, we would have to buy the supplies, mark them up, ship them to you and charge you for the shipping, and it would end up costing you at least double what you could buy the same things for locally. We will be happy to give you the names and numbers of OUR suppliers, but you may use any vendor you choose.

Q:
What will it cost for the "extra" stuff?
A: After buying your kettle, plan on spending from $800 to $1,000 to purchase an EZ-up, signage, containers, tables, screens, utensils, dumping pan, paddle and enough supplies for your first show.

Q:
Anything else I should consider?
A: Yes. If you like people, like to talk and interact with them, enjoy going to different events, like to see people smiling and laughing, this is the business to get into. Watch the people waiting at any kettle corn booth and you'll see what we mean. Then call or email us so you can get started too!
